Data Recovery using Improved RVLC in MPEG-4

چکیده
In this paper, we present a low-complexity RVLC decoding scheme (including the effect of DC/AC prediction) that recovers more blocks and sometimes more MBs from error propagation region of corrupted video packets, as compared to the MPEG-4 scheme. The remaining blocks and MBs are concealed, by using maximally smooth error concealment scheme. It is shown that the proposed scheme achieves better data recovery, both in terms of PSNR and perceptual quality. In addition, we present more conditions for better error detection than those suggested in MPEG-4, and also discuss properties of error propagation in corrupted video packets. Since the schemes are purely decoder based, the compliance with the standard is fully maintained.

RVLC decoding scheme for improved data recovery in MPEG-4 video coding standard
In this paper, we present a low-complexity ‘reversible variable length code’ (RVLC) decoding scheme for MPEG-4 video that recovers more blocks and sometimes more macroblocks (MBs) from error propagation region of corrupted video packets, as compared to the MPEG-4 scheme. The remaining blocks and MBs are concealed. Simulation studies have been carried out to show that the proposed scheme achieve...
متن کاملJoint source-channel decoding for MPEG-4 video transmission over wireless channels
This paper investigates the use of joint sourcechannel coding for reliable transmission of MPEG-4 video over wireless channels. We present a maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) based, joint source-channel decoder for variable length coded intra and inter macroblocks in a MPEG-4 encoded video stream. We then provide a comprehensive evaluation of this paradigm as an alternative method for achi...
متن کاملConstruction of Symmetrical Reversible Variable Length Codes Using Backtracking
Many coding standards, such as JPEG, H.261, H.263, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, use variable length codes (VLC) as their entropy coding strategy. However, VLC have a big drawback when transmitting over a noisy channel. This drawback is an error propagation problem. For this reason, reversible variable length codes (RVLC) have been used to enhance the error resilient capabilities of VLC. This paper presents ...
متن کاملReversible watermarking using two-way decodable codes
Traditional variable length codes(VLC) used in compressed media are brittle and suffer synchronization loss following bit errors. To counter this situation, resynchronizing VLCs(RVLC) have been proposed to help identify, limit and possibly reverse channel errors. In this work we observe that watermark bits are in effect forced bit errors and are amenable to the application of error-resilient te...
